Bea didn't learn how her father died until after she was thirteen. In 2017 she composed an essay for The Guardian about the suicide of her father's relatives and took on the stage name Bea in remembrance of him. Bea (and her sister Sinead) were raised in a home by Helen Moloney who was a teacher and jockey trainer who was a professional jockey. Her family were in love with racing meetings and horses. Bea had a job as an instructor in the Irish National Stud. From a very young age, Bea knew that she didn't want racing as a career. Instead, she was drawn to the artistic arts.
